Capitalizing on the UK release of S2 to
save Our Flag Means Death

AVAST YE!

We’re hoisting some billboards again. This time in London.

If you’re here to help, or just learn more— find the project info here.

What’s the plan?

To use the Season 2 UK release schedule to our advantage, we’re launching a media campaign in pursuit of pick-up for our beloved show, Our Flag Means Death.

Why paid media?

To continue driving this fan campaign towards our pick-up goals, we need to keep earning attention. The more we keep proving sustained interest, viewership, and fandom growth, the more we demonstrate to streamers that picking up the show is a good financial investment.

Paid advertising in Central London during the UK release helps us hit all these objectives.

  • It’s a proven means of earning press attention for the show and the campaign.

  • It demonstrates OFMD fans are a large and lucrative audience.

  • It helps bolster pick-up campaign metrics like petition signs

  • And it just promotes the show!

Once the billboard is confirmed, we aim to make our fundraising dollars work even harder with a PR plan to inform journalists and media contacts that we’re still out here pulling for our show. If you’d like to help with that PR plan, you have media contacts to share, or you are media yourselfplease get in touch!

SAVE OFMD CREW

Save OFMD Crew is an open group of fans who collaborate mainly via Discord and operate group accounts across most major social platforms (and some minor ones, love you Bluesky.)

The Save OFMD Crew Discord is an organizing space for fans to suggest and develop initiatives with the goal of helping the show get picked up.

Members of the Discord volunteer their time and knowledge to the ideas that they want to help with. That means all kinds of fans, from all fan platforms, get to apply their individual skills and lead their own projects.

There’s no single leader among us. We decide as a group Save OFMD Crew boosts with their official accounts. These accounts are manned by server members interested and comfortable with updating the platforms they operate. The moderators of the Discord server are: @roximonoxide, @Whimzee, @Queerly_Autistic, @Hoshi, @lcwebsxoxo, and @Jello, but this list grows with the server.

If you want to get involved, reach out! Follow us, DM us, join our server. We’d love to have you

Who is Save OFMD Crew?

When members of the Save OFMD Crew server & fans from other platforms expressed interest in a billboard campaign to capitalize on the final episodes airing in the UK, we began investigating feasibility of a paid media campaign in London.

After a group discussion and a vote, a group of interested volunteers with relevant experience and skills lead the project, checking in with the rest of the Save OFMD Crew server when needed.

This media campaign project is being organized and led by @HoistOurFlag, @HoshiForever, @QueerlyAutistic and @roximonoxide.

WHAT MEDIA, WHY, WHERE AND WHEN

To cover the cost of 1-3 paid media assets selected with the help of a UK based campaign advertising consultant. (Hi Mike!) Our consultant takes no fees or commission from our funds. He’s paid by the media vendors he finds paying customers for.

Though some private/larger donors have come forward, we also wanted to ensure the fundraiser was open to any fan who wants to help. It’s nice to be a part of something.

By publicly fundraising, we are also able to try for our stretch goals. These are pie-in-the-sky goals, but something we might be able to reach as a crew.

Ultimately, community fundraising helps us prove to platforms that might pick up the show there is a large, lucrative fanbase willing to show up for Our Flag Means Death. We want them to see this show is a great investment.

Why a fundraiser?

Main Goal - 4x Days of a Leicester Square Billboard
Stretch Goal 1 - 3x Days of Ad Trucks touring potential streamers London HQs
Stretch Goal 2 - London Underground Digital Ads in target relevant stations

What’s the media plan?

For more on the media strategy behind this specific media selection check out our full project FAQ document here.

Why billboards, trucks and station ads?

The first billboard is scheduled to go live 11th-12th March.

Scheduling our stretch goal media (ad trucks and London Underground ads) are currently being discussed as those things won’t happen unless we reach our fundraising stretch goals.

When does it go live?

The fundraiser will be up for two weeks, closing on 10 March at 11:59pm (GMT). This gives two full weeks of fundraising time, with that portion of the campaign ending before the first billboard day.

How long do I have to contribute?

Absolutely not.

In fact, we don’t encourage anyone to contribute if they’re not comfortable doing so, for any reason. This project began at the hands of people who wanted to see it happen. Zero pressure to participate has always been our motto.

Does it matter how much someone contributes?

The previous paid media campaign took place in NYC and was spearheaded by another group of OFMD fans; HoistTheAds.

What happens to any
remaining funds?

Charitable donations. Our fandom makes a habit of supporting great causes and this project is no different.

In the event we have more than we need to pursue this media plan, we’ll distribute remaining funds evenly across the following charities:

To find out more about why and how these foundations were selected please check out our full project FAQ.
